FORDHAM STUDENTS AND FRIENDS OF PUERTO RICO CELEBRATED AMERICORPS SERVICE DAY

With environmental, diversity, cultural and team bond activities

Last March 15th, we celebrated the AmeriCorps Service Day at Panorama Farm. There, AmeriCorps volunteers, Fordham University students, SEEDS program youth entrepreneurs, and the Friends of Puerto Rico team, joined together to plant trees and experience the unique natural environment of Las Marías.

During the tree-planting activity, the group learned about the types of plants best suited for the local environment and about our Café Ama, Friends of Puerto Rico’s social impact coffee.

On March 17th, Fordham students also had the opportunity to be part of the "Festival de La China" which celebrates Las Marías' star product: sweet orange.

Fordham students also traveled to Aguadilla and met the Aguadilla Business Center (ABC). There, they were introduced to our coworking space by the sea, and enjoyed a challenging group activity in which they had to build a raft with waste, and make it float.

Volunteers and Fordham students had a great time and learned how to care for the environment, respect cultural diversity and appreciate the wonders of Puerto Rico.
