Students Travel from Vieques to Share Their Social Impact Coffee

Traveling from and to the Vieques Island is very common for people that live in Puerto Rico and even for tourists looking for more beaches to enjoy. This unique journey requires waking up at 5:00 am to get a ticket for the ferry and travel around 45 minutes by sea to the main island. Our students from the SEEDS entrepreneurship program in the Vieques school embarked on this journey with their teacher Mrs. Yamitza Zoe.

In January, our students, like many others traveling from Vieques, woke up extra early on a Saturday, took the ferry and then traveled by car to bring their Café Ama booth to the San Patricio Mall. In partnership with PenFed Credit Union, the students had the opportunity to share with PenFed members the delicious coffee that makes possible the program they are participating in. Our young entrepreneurs returned to Vieques after an unforgettable experience!

Throughout our SEEDS program, students have had Cafe Ama pop-ups at local supermarkets, restaurants, convention centers, and now PenFed branches, giving them exposure to different types of scenarios. The coffee pop-ups provide students with hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom. It is an opportunity for them to apply what they have been learning from managing money, sales, leadership and accounting. The booth is the perfect tool for them to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and improve their soft skills.

We would love you for you to join us and help us reach our goal.  You too can support the next generation of entrepreneurs by purchasing delicious Café Ama. Each purchase supports women and girls becoming the future leaders and entrepreneurs.
