Act 20-22 to build the future

Written by James Kennedy | President Beach Cities Solar Consulting LLC

I have been an entrepreneur for eleven years and recently took advantage of Puerto Rico's tax incentive (Act 20) to move my solar consulting business Beach Cities Solar Consulting LLC to San Juan in 2019.

I was introduced to Friends Of Puerto Rico, the SEEDS Program, and the Amigas Program this past Summer through a fellow Rotarian in the San Juan Rotary Club where I currently serve as the Vice President. I expressed interest in giving back to the local youth community on the island through some form of entrepreneurship mentoring program.  I have seen first hand how entrepreneurship, business education, and financial literacy can positively impact lives and families.

I thought we were going to have to create something from scratch but little did I know Angelique Sina and her colleagues at Friends Of Puerto Rico had already beat me to the punch!  In 2019 they launched the SEEDS program to teach 100 at-risk Puerto Rican youth how to launch, market, and grow a business.  These children are learning critical life skills for success in a rapidly changing global economy.

I was so impressed with their organization, I decided to donate the majority of my Act 22 annual charitable contribution to their organization and become a mentor.

I applaud Friends of Puerto Rico for their service to our community and the next generation of Puerto Rican entrepreneurs.
