Women entrepreneurs as hive to economic development

By Leyrian Colón Santiago

The opportunity to change the world by entrepreneurship is necessary for the road to economic development, reduce the gender gap, and achieve a new generation of more committed leaders.

From September 21 to 25th, the Small Business Week was celebrated despite 2020 being a challenging year. At Friends of Puerto Rico, we honor all Hispanic entrepreneurs who rise for their families and countries.

Women & Employment

In 2017 in the United States only 17% of small business owners were Latinas. But research by CoreWoman detailed that Latina women entrepreneurs employ 550,400 persons and generate 97 billion in income.

The women entrepreneurs are recognized by their desire to achieve their economic independence, hard work, and spirit that allows them to achieve what they want despite obstacles in their way.

Women started 1,817 new businesses in 2019.

THE 2019 STATE OF WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES REPORT

We are committed to providing all necessary tools to women who wish to continue growing and doing business through our AMIGAS Entrepreneurship Accelerator.

The AMIGAS Entrepreneurship Accelerator is an intensive program that provides the first steps to put your idea into action and generate revenue as an entrepreneur. We share the vision of building wealth in Puerto Rico and the Hispanic community at large and empowering Hispanic women and youth through financial literacy education, entrepreneurship training, and health.

Our AMIGAS program has served since 2015 as a response to those women entrepreneurs who need a hand that guides and raises them to their highest potential. Friends of Puerto Rico is proud today, tomorrow, and always to be able to empower and help entrepreneurs.
